Apology/Preview

It turns out I've been leaving all comments (on old posts) in moderation for a month or two without knowing it.  So if you left a comment and it never appeared, that's why.  Very sorry. I just discovered the problem today and found some good comments in there (along with all the weird spam...which is why I moderate comments on older posts).

Saturday I plan on writing a post about "Sarah Palin's Alaska."  Oh come on, don't tell me you aren't watching!  The big puzzle:  why is it a political asset to do all that killing on camera?  We'll try to figure it out....

I watched. I learned three things. She loves to kill. She gets her thrills from competing. The man always wins. After these were forcefully presented, they showed that she loves to kill, loves to compete, accepts that the man (her husband) wins. I continued to watch. They then showed that she loves to kill, loves to ..... well, you get the picture. Now what do they expect me to do with these revelations? Make her president? Shoot her?

Kill! Kill! Kill! It's fascinating how this is suppose to make her politically attractive. Maureen Dowd had a hilarious column about it today--

Does Palin really think the average housewife in Ohio who can’t pay her bills is going to load up on ammo, board two different planes, camp out for two nights with a film crew and shoot a caribou so she can feed her family organic food?

It’s amazing that Palin patronized Neiman Marcus during the campaign. Couldn’t she have spun cloth to sew her own clothes?

On the other hand, she's rather likeable, don't you think? Kind of? As long as she promises not to run for president?

Good article! Funny, but solid, serious critical observations. Yet I agree that there's something likeable about her. Maybe it's her self-awareness that has enough humor in it so that she did as good a job being a caricature of herself as Tina Fey did.

Yes, some self-awareness, and she doesn't mind looking silly either. She allowed footage showing she can't shoot a gun, and also footage of her kids making fun of her. I also like her get up and go--I mean for god's sake, she's out there in the COLD killing animals, not just sitting at home sending tweets to her fans.
