COMMENTS

Comments should be Relevant, Reasonable, and Respectful.
  • "Relevant" means relevant to the post.  If I'm trying to start a conversation about X, it isn't helpful to get sidetracked onto Y, especially at the beginning of a thread.
  • "Reasonable" means you give reasons for what you say, you think carefully before commenting, and the like.
  • "Respectful" means you're not insulting to me or other commenters, you don't deliberately twist ideas to gain advantage, etc.
Normally only posts more than 7 days old have moderated comments (to cut down on spam).  If your comment on a moderated thread didn't appear, I may have just overlooked it in my email and so failed to moderate.  Or maybe there was a problem with one of the Rs.  Blogger can sometimes delay publishing comments for a few minutes or an hour.  Last but not least, there's a length limit, and Blogger gives no warning--it just dumps excessively long comments.

9/23/10  I have discovered the ideal comment policy at another blog.  Apart from the fact that I'm an "I" not a "we" that expresses my attitude perfectly.
