I have a Writer’s Choice essay at Normblog today, I’m happy to report. It’s about the novel Never Let Me Go, by Kazuo Ishiguro. (I also had a profile at Normblog not long ago.)
I'm so glad you're writing on this topic right now! I'm teaching a course on "Using People" next semester, and I was wondering if there are good movies or fiction out there where the central theme is "treating people as mere means". Never Let Me Go will be perfect.
If you, or anyone else has other suggestions, I would really appreciate it!
Really interesting course topic! I taught a course on ethics and literature and used "The Remains of the Day." I thought it worked quite well, but next time I might use "Never Let Me Go" instead. I'm also looking for more novels to use in this course.
